Sturgeon Spotlight! - Calahoo Waste Disposal
55013 Rge Rd 10
Calahoo, Sturgeon County AB. T8R 1Z1
Lyle Quintal purchased a small "Mom & Pop" waste disposal business from Dave & Irene Fisher in August of 1996. At the time the Fishers were running it as a part time venture - one truck and ninety customers. The Fishers are local to the area and serviced Southern Sturgeon County for several years. Lyle approached Dave & Irene on the possibility of selling their waste disposal business, Dave promised he would offer it to Lyle first in the event of selling. Four years later Dave, true to his word sold the business to Lyle and it was renamed Calahoo Waste Disposal.
In the ensuing twenty-five years, the company has grown from owner/operator with one truck to a fleet of eighteen trucks and a staff of thirteen, which most of whom are local to the area. The business has increased with hundreds of customers in not only Sturgeon County, but Lac St. Anne County, Westlock County, St. Albert, and Edmonton. Lyle partnered with his nephew, Damian MacMillan, owner of Meridian Waste Disposal (servicing Parkland County) in 2005 and merged the two companies. With Lyle managing Calahoo Waste Disposal and Damian managing Meridian Waste Disposal, they have expanded their operations exponentially.
Customer service & competitive pricing is especially important to Lyle and Damian, coupled with a strong desire to support local business; makes for a great working relationship with their customers. In 2020 Lyle and Damian built a new facility to house their trucks/equipment West of Calahoo and engaged all local trades - something they are immensely proud of.
Both Lyle and Damian are involved in the community and volunteerism is particularly important to them. They are proud to be Sturgeon County residents with over one hundred years of family history in the area.
The companies are proud to offer several services: Curbside pickup with rollout carts for residential customers. Larger bin services ranging in size from 2 yard to 8 yards for residential, farm, and commercial customers. In selected areas residential and commercial recycling is also available. For renovations, shingling jobs, basement/garage/yard cleanups, demolitions, and scrap metal removal, they provide roll off bin services ranging in size from 10 yard to 20 yards to meet the customers needs.
Calahoo Waste Disposal is proud to be celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2021. The future looks promising for this local business and they "weathered" the difficulties in operating a business and keeping their staff safe and healthy with the arrival of COVID. They are extremely proud of their employees and look forward to many more years of operations.
