Tyler Westover is a born leader with avid focus, energy, and determination. In the second year as Manager of Sturgeon County’s Economic Development department, he offers a combined total of ten years of expertise in municipal economic development.
Prior to working with Sturgeon County, Tyler worked with Strathcona County in various management roles; namely, Small Business & Tourism, Industrial Development, and Strategic Initiatives. In 2016, Tyler’s achievements with Strathcona County were recognized by Economic Developers of Alberta (EDA) with an Outstanding Young Professional Award for his excellence in economic development. This award recognizes an EDA member who demonstrates impressive professional achievements to-date and reveals future promise.
Tyler Westover’s visionary aptitude strengthens his capacity to lead a robust team focused on key areas of business development/attraction, retention/expansion and partnership/interconnection. The value placed on strengthening new and existing business relationships generates positive impact for Sturgeon County, combined with strategy and cooperation to ensure a connection to sustainable growth. Tyler said, “It’s rewarding to meet a wide spectrum of entrepreneurs in various sectors who are enthusiastic, which in turn creates an unveiling of the best methodology to drive innovation and ultimately delivers the creation of a stronger community.”
With a keen eye for detail in marketing and event planning, Leanne McBean has been working in Sturgeon County’s Economic Development department as the Marketing Coordinator for the past 5 years. With a Graphic Design diploma from MacEwan University, combined with courses in finance, business management, customer service, and project management, Leanne’s creative side is well balanced by her business fortitude. Currently working towards an Economic Development certification through Economic Developers of Alberta, Leanne is expanding her targeted knowledge and looks forward to assisting business owners with their goals for expansion and development in Sturgeon County.
With a focus on the annual Culinary Cookout, Leanne has ensured this event continues to grow each year and reaches its goal to enhance awareness of local producers, while enhancing their connections to other businesses and consumers directly. Her integral role in the department ensures that workshops and events are tailored to business needs. Leanne said, “I enjoy working at Sturgeon County because I can see the direct impact that our support has for local businesses. It’s exciting to see the continued growth in the community.”
Leanne’s work at Sturgeon County stems from prior experience working in municipalities and the desire to see events flourish from initial concept through to successful completion. Creating connections is a natural progression for Leanne’s focus and determination to create unique opportunities for entrepreneurs.
Leanne McBean - Marketing Coordinator
As an organized, positive, and detail-oriented individual, Talayna Spargo has been working in Sturgeon County’s Economic Development department for the past 10 years. With a Radio & Television diploma from NAIT, combined with courses in business retention from Economic Developers of Alberta, Talayna’s creative side meshes well with providing business support.
As a local resident in Sturgeon County, Talayna knows that her work makes a real difference. In her early career, Talayna led multiple Summer programs and was a former volunteer JET through Community Services where she gained invaluable hands-on work experience in event management. Her passion for Sturgeon County developed early and her love for this community is where she has always felt at home. She said, “It’s a great place to live; great amenities; wonderful schools, parks, and trails. Many families have lived here a lifetime and it’s the only place I’ve really felt a true sense of belonging.”
As an Assistant in Economic Development, Talayna’s dedication continues to make a difference for community members she interacts with on a regular basis.
