The University of Alberta (U of A) has a $12.3 billion annual impact on Alberta's economy, and organizations founded by U of A alumni produce $348.5 billion in annual revenue. The U of A motto, quaecumque vera, means “whatsoever things are true” and is taken from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Philippians, Chapter 4, Verse 8, in the Latin Vulgate version of the Bible.

At 17,650 square metres (190,000 square feet), NAIT’s new Productivity and Innovation Centre (PIC) includes advanced manufacturing labs, acceleration spaces for small and medium-sized businesses and a dedicated hub for applied research activity.

Serving 4.3 million Albertans, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is the largest fully-integrated health system in Canada. AHS has more than 110,000 employees and is supported by over 10,300 practicing physicians.


 

  Education

Sturgeon County is served by two school divisions, which provide educational opportunities to about 6,000 students through 18 schools and two storefront learning centres located throughout Sturgeon County. There are also several charter schools in the area that serve smaller, more specific student populations.

Sturgeon County residents and businesses have access to top-ranked post-secondary institutions throughout the Edmonton Metro Region including world-class polytechnics, colleges and universities. Local businsses can access a large population of highly educated, skilled labour for any venture.

Located in Edmonton, the University of Alberta (U of A) is a Top 5 Canadian university, and ranks within the Top 150 World University Rankings. The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton, Alberta, is a leader in technical training and applied education. NAIT offers over 250 programs annually to 16,200 students enrolled in credit programs, 14,400 students enrolled in non-credit courses and 9,600 apprentices registered in apprenticeship training.

  Healthcare

Healthcare facilities available to Sturgeon County residents are in Morinville, Redwater and St. Albert. In addition, the Sturgeon Community Hospital provides a wide variety of health services to the community of St. Albert and surrounding area. As a community hospital, the Sturgeon’s focus is on providing the best care in a comfortable, modern and friendly setting.

The Sturgeon Community Hospital has undergone redevelopment ensuring the emergency department can cater to the fast-growing populations of St. Albert, North Edmonton and Sturgeon County. It has capacity for 65,000 patient visits each year. The redevelopment of the hospital is part of a comprehensive, ongoing plan to increase and improve health care infrastructure across the province.

Located in Edmonton, the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada's leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals - treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH is one of Canada’s leading academic health sciences centres with a reputation for research, innovation, education, and patient-centred care.

As a referral centre for western and northern Canada, the teams at the UAH, the Mazankowksi Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic provide expert care to our community as well as some of the most complex and critically ill patients in Canada.
